LARGE LATE 17TH CENTURY VERDURE TAPESTRY
Finely woven tapestry depicting a forest landscape. On the left ahand sade a body of water runs down to the foreground from the distance. In the centre some houses are visible on the horizon and in the foreground two wading birds stand by the river, one plucking a fish out with it's beak. On the right hand side a parrot sits in an oak tree. The whole tapestry is dense with trees and plants in high contrast giving a strong sense of perspective. The tapestry is surrounded by a later gold and red geometric border and single blue trim.
Woven in wool and silk and backed in linen. Lille, France circa 1700.
The tapestry has some small old repairs but is in excellent condition for it's age.
